MEASURING                                                                                                                            


The Show Horse Council of SA Inc regularly holds measuring days which are run in accordance with the Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc measuring scheme and associated rules.

All horses registered with the National Saddle Horse Register need to hold a current SHC official height certificate.

It is the competitors responsibility to get their horse measured within 6 months of starting competition.

Measuring days are run at several times during the year in both metropolitan and regional areas.

  • Reduced measuring costs with SHC Membership
  • Allows access to Grand National Qualifying shows (along with NSH Registration)
  • Measuring days are run in Metropolitan and Regional Areas
  • Part of a professional, best practice on Measuring standards and Rules within SHC (more information on SHC of Australasia website)
  • Ability to apply for Annual or Provisional Height Certificates for competition purposes
  • Be part of a National Measuring Database that SHC of Australasia is maintaining Australia wide (in process)

Height Certificate Costs:

•   Annual / Provisional Height Certificate for SHC Affiliate Members $15.00 INC. GST

•   Annual / Provisional Height Certificate for Non SHC Affiliate Members $25.00 INC. GST


REMEASURE FEE: $500 INC. GST (non refundable)

DEFAULT PAYMENT: $500 INC. GST for any non-appearance at Remeasure


RULES

The SHCA Inc Measuring Scheme Rules can be accessed below.  Some main points to keep in mind are:

  • Provisional Measures are issued to horses under 5 years of age and are valid for 6 months from the date of the measure.  A horse is not eligible to be re-measured for a further Provisional or Annual measure unless the current measure is within 1 month of expiry;
  • Annual Measures are issued to horses 5 years of age & over and are valid for 12 months from the date of the measure.  A horse is not eligible to be re-measured for a further Annual measure unless the current measure is within 3 months of expiry;
  • Life Measures for horses under 16.3hh may be applied for at the time of measuring and may be granted providing all of the following conditions are met:
  1. The horse is 8 years of age or over & holds a current SHCA Inc Annual measure;
  2. The horse is not being measured as a result of a Right of Appeal or Re-Measure (refer to Rules);
  3. Prior to the application being made for a Life Measure, the horse MUST HAVE HELD THREE CONSECUTIVE ANNUAL MEASURES in the same height division having been measured by TWO DIFFERENT SHCA Inc MEASURERS; and
  4. The Life measurement places the horse in the same height division as the previous measures.
  • Life Measures for horses 16.3hh & over may be applied for at any time regardless of the age of the horse, and may be issued at the first measure.


When attending a measuring day please remember the following:

 •   Original Horse Registration Papers (NSH Registration Papers)

•   A Completely filled out Measuring Application form with the right money

•   The horse is to be presented in a bridle (with a bit in its mouth)

•   Handler of the horse to be over 18 years and to be wearing closed toe shoes
